Your First Visit to Our Jacksonville Practice

You will be warmly welcomed and made to feel at home. Help is on its way!

New patients often remark how "homey" our office is. That's good, because our goal is to offer state-of- the-art chiropractic care in a comfortable surrounding. So please - make yourself at home!

You'll find plenty of convenient parking. You'll be greeted by name when you enter our office. For your honor and comfort we try to keep fresh cut flowers and offer you a drink or maybe an apple for a healthy snack. If you've already completed your admitting paperwork, great! If not, after doing so we'll likely show you a short 5 minute video explaining chiropractic care and then you'll meet one of our doctors.

The purpose of your consultation with the doctor is to discuss your health goals and see if chiropractic care is likely to help you. If it looks promising, a thorough examination will help identify the cause of your problem. Patients appreciate that we explain everything in advance.

Your Examination
  1. Your examination consists of four parts. We start with your vital signs then a postural evaluation to measure the balance of your weight bearing.  For those seeking nutritional evaluation, weight loss or detox we use the exclusive Tanita body composition scales to assess, hydration, muscle mass and percent body fat.
  2. We are proud to offer our patients state of the art computerized soft tissue evaluation called "Insight" This equipment utilizes a thermal scan to record temperature differences in your muscles, indicative of inflammation or swelling. Another scan is surface EMG to evaluate muscle tension or spasm. The third program measures range of motion.
  3. According to your symptoms and the results of your computerized soft tissue evaluation it then may be necessary to perform an x-ray study to observe the bones themselves for displacement or pathology.
  4. In addition the doctor will further evaluate the area of chief complaint with manual palpation and any appropriate orthopedic or neurologic testing.

Following examination, the doctor may choose to perform gentle mobilization and/or standard physical therapies to assist in decreasing your discomfort. We will schedule a complete report of findings for your second visit. This reduces the length of your first visit, gives us time to correlate our findings, and avoids overloading you with too much information.  Your first visit may take 1½ hours.

Jacksonville chiropractic patients appreciate that we explain everything in advance!

How long does it take to form a bone spur?
Many who begin chiropractic care think their problem happened "last week when you bent over funny." But pictures of the spine tell a different story. Chiropractors know it can take your body years to deposit the calcium necessary to form a bone spur. It's your body's response to stress due to gravity or joint malfunction.
