Introducing Dr. Ellan Duke

Jacksonville chiropractor Dr. Ellan Duke

I wasn't always going to be a Chiropractor, but I was always going to be in health care. I have been involved with the handicapped since childhood. Having a little brother born with Cerebral Palsy and hard of hearing, I have worked with the Easter Seals as a volunteer and as a paid employee. It was here that spawned my dream of seeking a degree in health care that would most benefit those overcoming physical limitations. My first job in health care was as a Chiropractic Assistant to Dr. Maria Romanelli who would become my mentor and dear friend. I loved that chiropractic was all natural, proactive health care. Not only could handicapped individuals benefit, but anyone and everyone.

I attended Palm Beach Junior College and the University of Florida for prerequisites in advanced math, physics, organic, inorganic, and biochemistries, as well as anatomy and physiology. I received my bachelors degree in Nutritional Counselling and was accepted to Life Chiropractic College near Atlanta Georgia for another four years of sciences, diagnosis, x-ray, chiropractic techniques and patient care in the public clinic. I received my doctorate degree in 1986. Shortly afterwards I moved back to my husbands home town of Jacksonville. My husband is an architect and with his help we opened River Hills Chiropractic and Wellness Center in 1989.

After birthing our first son in 1986, I became thrilled with babies and sought much additional education in care for children and pregnant women. This followed my specialty in aid to the handicapped. After our forth son was born, I found it necessary to seek yet another specialty as a certified sports physician. Now after passing the "big 4-0" age group, my focus has returned to nutrition, fitness, and anti-aging.

Ultimately, I have come to love treating patients of all ages with all conditions.  Incidentally, my "little brother" is now a 6'3" handsome and wonderful man. He is a minister in his church in South Florida. My boys are 14,16,18 & 20. Two in college and two in high school. Our family attends Englewood Christian Church. In "spare time" I am the president of the Clifton Civic Association where we live, as well as the president of the Christian Chiropractic Association whose ministry is to provide a chiropractic clinic for the homeless involved with the City Rescue Mission.

Thank you for visiting our web site. I hope it can be a source of hope and healing. If you have any questions please call me or click on the "Email the Doctor" button at the bottom of every page.

Dr. Ellan Asks some important questions of interest to Jacksonville residents - Chiropractor Jacksonville Dr. Ellan Asks...

What can a chiropractor do for asthma?
Many people think of chiropractic as exclusively dealing with the spine. But I'm interested in the spine because it covers the nervous system. Problems in the spine can produce problems in the organs and tissues controlled by the affected nerves—including those to the lungs and bronchial tubes. Find out how chiropractic care has helped those with asthma.
How long does it take to form a bone spur?
Many who begin chiropractic care think their problem happened "last week when you bent over funny." But pictures of the spine tell a different story. Chiropractors know it can take your body years to deposit the calcium necessary to form a bone spur. It's your body's response to stress due to gravity or joint malfunction. And chiropractic care can help.
